Swelling can be caused by lots of different things, some which respond well to treatment with Lymphatic Therapy include, swollen ankles, swelling post surgery, fluid retention brought on by menopause, swelling from an injury such as an ankle sprain, swelling from RSI, general congestion and Lymphoedema.
Lymphoedema occurs when the lymphatic system doesn't function correctly. Protein and fluid build up in the body tissues, and because the lymphatic system can't remove it, swelling occurs.
The Lymphatic system can be disrupted for many reasons; one of the most common of these is lymph node removal during surgery for treatment of cancer, particularly breast cancer. People may also be born with a dysfunctional lymphatic system.
Lymphatic Therapy is aimed at managing and reducing swelling/lymphoedema and is comprised of 5 main aspects of treatment: Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), Bandaging & compression garments, Decongestive exercise, Skin care and a Home program.
Please click the menu links above for more information on each aspect of treatment.
The most requested aspect is MLD, which is like a very gentle sort of massage, this is Susan's specialty.
