Oriental medicine has been in existance for thousands of years and encompasses techniques from all throughout Asia.
Acupressure, Chinese massage (Tui Na), Cupping, and Shiatsu have become increasingly popular in the West as people embrace the Eastern view of health,
preventitive and focussed on balance of body and mind.
Shiatsu is the Japanese form of acupressure and uses the thumbs, hands and even feet to apply pressure to points and energy channels. It can be
delivered as a full body treatment, or used to treat a specific area. Shiatsu also uses a lot of stretching and leaves you feeling relaxed but invigorated.
Acupressure & Tui Na are based on the same principles as Acupuncture but do not use needles. Like shiatsu they use the thumbs and hands to either focus on
particular Acupoints or for quite vigorous massage aimed at promoting blood and energy flow.
Cupping uses plastic, glass or bamboo 'cups' which when applied create a small vacuum, pulling the tissue gently into the cup to release stagnation, muscle tension,
and pain.
Oriental therapies aim to treat the cause of disease and not just the symptoms and involve a thorough diagnostic process. They can be used to support recovery from
most conditions or to prevent illness and keep body and mind balanced and healthy!
